Hsiao-Yun ChuHsiao-Yun Chu holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a Master’s Degree in Product Design from Stanford University. She has worked in the Rapid Prototyping Lab at Stanford University, and was formerly the Assistant Curator for the R. Buckminster Fuller Collection at Stanford University. She has also taught at SF State, Stanford University, California College of the Arts, and the Art Institute of California. Assistant Professor Chu is the coordinator for undergraduate Product Design and Development students, and teaches Product Design classes, the History of Design and Technology, Design Process, and Packaging Design. Assistant Professor Chu has an active program of research and writing, including an upcoming volume on R. Buckminster Fuller (May 2009).

An active educator, Ms. Chu has taught courses in Visual Thinking, Advanced Product Design, the History of Design, and Portfolio Design at Stanford University; Packaging Design at the Art Institute of California, San Francisco; and DAI 356 History of Design and Technology at San Francisco State University. Currently, she is teaching DAI 356, DAI 475 (Exploring Packaging Design), and DAI 470 (Portfolio Preparation) at SFSU. A dedicated teacher, Ms. Chu aims to involve students in the learning process, paying attention to both the conceptual and the practical aspects of design education. Her interests include design history, user-based research methodology, green design, and the cultural and social implications of design.
