Two Teams from the School of Design are finalists in Stanford’s Center for Longevity Design Challenge

Two teams from the School of Design are Stanford Design Challenge finalists. This competition supports the inclusive design innovation relative to Design Across the Lifespan, Aging in Place and the Well-being of Longevity.

Gather – Seira Yasumatsu, San Francisco State University – A portable workbench and rest device that helps to facilitate community gardening for all ages and abilities, promoting social engagement for a happier and healthier lifestyle.  

Seven Bridges – Jeannie Llewellyn, Crystal Choi, Jason Appler, Cassondra Hegyes, Yutao Lim, San Francisco State University – A platform connecting youth volunteers to seniors via mutual interests and providing help with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s)

Since 2013, The School of Design at SF State has had six finalist teams in the in the Stanford Design Challenge Competitions. SF State is the ONLY program with two Finalist out of the eight international teams.  View more information about the competition. 

Dr. Kenneth Smith, Senior Research Scholar & Mobility Director, Stanford Center on Longevity told me in a recent correspondence: “You guys (SF State) have definitely been our star contributors over the years ….. in the first five years we’ve had 289 entries from 175 universities in 28 countries, so you can certainly claim to be doing exceptionally well against truly global competition.”
