Students Share Their Senior Design Projects with Spring 2025 Class
This past Monday, February 17th, ID student Luke Seeley and VCD alumnus Samer Al-Hajjaj presented their process and design outcomes to a room full of students starting their journeys in Prof. Carvalho’s DES.505 Senior Design Project class.
Both Samer and Luke took Prof. Carvalho’s class last semester, excelling in their engagement, research and development process, and results achieved. They looked back at their journey, and shared insights on the professional and personal experiences afforded by their capstone projects’ work.
Luke’s Pocket Park project combined his passion for toys with his growing commitment to sustainability. His work explored organic materials such as mycelium, embedded with seeds, to promote a more interactive relationship with collectibles, while exploring the educational potential of using National Parks and monuments as conduits for greater ecological and historical awareness.

Samer’s Finding Halal project addressed the need for helping Muslim-Americans to better understand and find Halal food options, by using gamification strategies and mapping tools. The app developed by Samer integrates recipes from users, assessment of restaurant ingredients, and a product scanning function to help people making better food choices.
